An American Perspective

21 March 2012

Sydney Law School will deliver units of study that have a U.S. perspective or context as well as those that are taught by American experts as part of its postgraduate program in 2012.

Experts feature:

Most units of study are offered on an intensive basis, making it possible for you to complete it in a matter of four to five days.

Upon completion of classes, you simply have to complete the required assessment.

While some units are available only to law graduates, it is possible for you to apply and enrol in these units even if you do not have a law degree.

Provided you have a relevant bachelor's degree at an appropriate level and have met any pre-requisite requirements, you can apply for a specialist Graduate Diploma or Master's degree, apply for non-award study and credit the unit at a later stage or apply for single unit enrolment and attend the classes without completing the assessment.

Applicable units for 2012 include:

If you're a lawyer, you can apply for the Master of Laws (LLM) or the Graduate Diploma in Law (GradDipLaw) or any other specialist graduate diploma or Master's degree.

If you are a non-lawyer, admission depends on your tertiary background, both in terms of discipline and grade point average.

In turn, your unit choice may dictate your degree.

For instance, if you're interested in Cross-Border Deals - A U.S. Perspective, you might like to consider the Master of Business Law (MBL).

If you are interested in U.S. International Taxation and Comparative Valued Added Tax, you can apply for the Master of Taxation (MTax).

In turn, the Master of Health Law (MHL) is a suitable degree with which to add Global Health Law or Law & Healthly Lifestyles.

You can enrol inthese unitson a or non-award basis if you do not wish to commit to a Master's or Graduate Diploma.

You can continue to add units via this method, and provided you meet the relevant requirements and complete the assessment you can also qualify for a Graduate Diploma or Master's if you so wish.

You can also enrol in these units on a single unit or seminar basis where you can attend classes but you do not have to complete the assessment.

Further, subject to approval from the Associate Dean (Postgraduate Coursework), candidates in other Faculties at the University of Sydney or from other universities may be able to enrol in these units.

If you're a lawyer, you can enrol in these units on an Legal Professional Development (LPD) basis.

Seminars, courses and units of study offered under Sydney Law School's LPD Program meet the necessary requirements of both the Law Society of New South Wales and the New South Wales Bar Association in relation to their individual members.

The fees are $3,540 per unit for domestic students and $4,320 for international students.
