Home Invasions

28 March 2012

Garner Clancey from the Sydney Institute of Criminology believes better home security systems have led to a rise in often violent invasions or aggravated break-ins when residents were home.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, he says it is hard to gauge how serious the problem had become because there were no specific figures or research about home invasions.

"The criminals evolve and adapt. As other types of targets become harder there can be a displacement of crime," he asserts.

"Criminals will move on to other targets if they perceive something as high risk and low reward."
