A Celebration of Emeritus Professor Tom Watson's Academic Life

21 November 2013

Professor Iqbal Ramzan, Dean of Pharmacy, hosted a Celebration of Emeritus Professor Tom Watson's Academic Life on Thursday 21st November 2013. The University of Sydney is a place where curious minds meet exceptional teachers. We believe in our people and in the power of their ideas to make a difference. Support from donors like you plays a critical role in helping us to attract the most inspiring teachers, scholars and researchers. Emeritus Professor Tom Watson, who passed away in October 2012, was one of our outstanding academic readers who had a profound impact on a generation of pharmacists, and the patients they serve, through his visionary leadership. Professor Watson first made his mark on the University of Sydney by being one of the first recipients of the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Pharmacy in 1956. He readily took up a role in the then Department of Pharmacy as a lecturer, before becoming the head of the department in 1967. Professor Watson remained at the helm for many years, steering its transition into the modern day and guiding the careers of others as a mentor and friend. What may surprise you is that Professor Watson also gave generously to the University. He was inspired by the potential of our people and his donations were a vote of confidence in the work they were undertaking. He was committed to make a difference. In celebration of the life, passions and commitment of Professor Watson, the Faculty of Pharmacy has established the Tom Watson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
