Students, staff and Alumni honoured at Faculty Awards Ceremony

The Faculty of Pharmacy celebrated the achievements of students, staff and for the first time, its alumni, at its Annual Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 4th May. Professor Derrick Armstrong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) attended the ceremony to present prize winners with their certificates.
Students were awarded prizes and scholarships based on academic merit and excellence in their studies while staff whose professionalism and dedication contributed to student success were recognized for their special talent and commitment.
"The Faculty is deeply committed to attaining the highest levels of academic achievement from both staff and students" said Professor Iqbal Ramzan, Dean of Pharmacy. "Winning an award can have a significant impact on a students confidence as well as their resume, and help give them a head start in their careers after graduation, I congratulate all of our prizewinners on the outcomes of their hard work."
Five teaching awards were presented to Faculty staff at the ceremony. These were:
- Outstanding Teaching: Professor Hak-Kim Chan
- Support of the Student Experience (Academic Staff): Dr Romano Fois
- Support of the Student Experience (Casual Staff): Fatinah Zirein
- Support of the Student Experience (General Staff) Fred Wong
- Excellence in Research Higher Degree Supervision: Professor Ines Krass
The Faculty also awarded its two inaugural Alumni Awards this year. These Faculty awards mirror the Alumni Awards given at University level and recognize the achievement and contribution of Pharmacy Alumni to the community.
Professional bodies and pharmaceutical companies sponsored many of the student prizes and scholarships. These included Blooms the Chemist Group, The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, Amgen Australia, the Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Blackmores, McGraw-Hill and the Guild Insurance Group.
"I would like to sincerely thank the sponsors of our student prizes" said Professor Ramzan. "The needs of university students today are such that the prize amounts make a valuable contribution to the associated costs of their education as well as encouraging our students to achieve excellence in their studies."
Sponsors contribution is recognised in the University's Honour Roll of Donors and its yearly report on philanthropy Sydney Annual, which is distributed to over 155,000 graduates and friends in Australia and around the world.
