Pharmacy Alumni honoured for achievements at Awards Ceremony
7 May 2010
The Pharmacy Alumni Association this year instigated two Alumni Awards for achievement for pharmacy graduates. The awards are the Pharmacy Alumni Award for Achievement, and the Pharmacy Young Alumni Award for Achievement.
"I would like to congratulate Mrs Patricia (Patti) Payne on winning the Pharmacy Award for Achievement and Daniel Rifkin on his success in the Pharmacy Young Award for Achievement category" said Professor Iqbal Ramzan, Dean of Pharmacy.
Both awards covered community, international, voluntary and professional achievements by the nominees within or outside of the professional area.
Mrs Patricia (Patti) Payne:
Patti's numerous achievements within Pharmacy and in the community are well known and were the basis of her nomination for this award. In 2006 she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to pharmacy and to children's medical research. Patti is the founder and chairperson of the Women in Pharmacy Group, a member of the Executive Committee of the Pharmacy Alumni Association as well as an elected member of the Community Pharmacy Section of the International Pharmacy Federation (FIP). She sits on the Board of Directors of the Children's Medical Research Institute and is a major organiser in a number of annual fundraising events, including the well known 'Jeans for Genes Day'.
Mr Daniel Rifkin:
Daniel graduated from the University of Sydney in 2008 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy and first class honours. During his time at the university and since graduating Daniel has been fully engaged in supporting his fellow students and working in the community. He has been an outstanding ambassador for the University and the Pharmacy profession both nationally and internationally and has a long and successful career ahead.
Only pharmacy alumni (i.e. graduates of the University) may be nominated for the Alumni Awards. Successful nominees may be put forward for Alumni Awards at the University level, which will be announced later this year.
Information sought for each nominee included a description of the qualities which make the nominee worthy of an Alumni Award, any activities in or beyond the profession the nominee is engaged in, a curriculum vitae, a list of achievements by the nominee within or outside of the professional area where relevant and, if available, documentary evidence such as newspaper clippings or copies of certificates of the nominee's achievements and activities.
