Government delegation from Guangdong Province visit the Faculty of Pharmacy

A delegation from the Guangdong Provincial Government led by the Vice Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology, Mr Min Zhang, visited the Faculty of Pharmacy on 1 June 2010.
Accompanying the delegation was the Consul for Science and Technology from the Consulate General of the Peoples' Republic of China in Sydney, General Fuxiang He.
The delegates were welcomed by the Dean of Pharmacy, Professor Iqbal Ramzan, and given a full tour of the Faculty's research facilities. "This visit highlights the value of collaboration and the progress being made in the area of herbal medicines research", he said.
Mr Zhang and General He expressed support for collaborative projects with Guangdong, and noted that Chinese medicine is one of the current research priorities of the Chinese government.
Professor Kelvin Chan, Joint Chair in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Dr George Li, coordinator of the Herbal Medicines Research and Education Centre at the Faculty of Pharmacy, gave an update on collaborative projects on Chinese medicines with Chinese institutes such as the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong Province.
