Claire O'Reilly appointed National Vice-President of PSA
28 July 2011
Claire O'Reilly, Associate Lecturer and current PhD candidate at the Faculty of Pharmacy has been appointed as a national Vice-President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA).
Claire has been a member of the NSW PSA Branch Committee for six years and is currently in her second term serving on the board. Claire was voted in as one of two national Vice-Presidents of PSA by the newly elected board.
Claire brings extensive experience and expertise to the role. She is a practicing community pharmacist and a researcher, who has a special interest promoting the quality use of medicines to healthcare professionals and the public, particularly in the area of mental health.
Claire said: "I am very honoured to be appointed as a national Vice-President of the PSA. I look forward to working closely with the board and PSA members to increase the profile of pharmacists as providers of primary health care in the community.
"As a Vice-President, two key areas of interest to me are: developing roles for pharmacists to play a greater role in supporting consumers with a mental illness and increasing the support and representation of early career pharmacists. PSA plays a key role in education and professional development for pharmacists, both are crucial for development of a pharmaceutical workforce that is skilled and ready for a diverse range of roles in the industry."
"Both areas are key elements to delivering better health care to the community and for pharmacists to be recognised as essential health care team members."
Claire will perform the role of Vice-President for the twelve months.
Professor Iqbal Ramzan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy said: "I congratulate Claire on her new role. This appointment is a welcome sign that PSA is embracing the talent of young pharmacists and educators as part of their professional activities."
The PSA is the largest professional organisation for pharmacists and has over 16,000 members. Alongside Claire, Joe Demarte was also voted in as a Vice-President and Grant Kardachi as President.
