Pharmacy student receives award at the International Forum on Integrative Medicine

The University of Sydney was a supporter of the International Forum and Exhibition on Integrative Medicinesuccessfully held in Chatswood on 21-23 October in Sydney. Professor Kelvin Chan was the Chair of the Scientific Committee, with Professor Basil Roufogalisand Dr George Li as Vice Chairs.

The forum was attended by over 200 delegates from Australia and China and was opened by: the Hon. Andrew Stoner MP, Deputy Premier of New South Wales, Mr Li Daning, Deputy Commissioner of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China and his Excellency Duan Jielong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney.

Researchers, educators and practitioners were invited to submit an abstract to the forum to present a poster on the evidence based integration of TCM, sleep disorders, chronic pain management, rehabilitation or similar. The University submitted seven research posters.

The Best Poster Award was received by Faculty of Pharmacy PhD student Min Song for her work on use of goji berry for diabetic retinopathy.

As part of the forum, staff and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Pharmacy participated in promoting Health Week by hosting a stall in Chatswood Mall.

The stall was well attended with many interested in the research publications on herbal medicines and medicinal plants on display.
