CUDOS Director appointed to IEEE Photonics Society Board

Congratulations to Professor Ben Eggleton, CUDOS Director, who was recently elected to the IEEE Photonics Society's Board of Governors.

Professor Eggelton is is an ARC Laureate Fellow and Professor of Physics at the University of Sydney, Director of the ARC Centre for Ultrahigh bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS), and Director of the Institute of Photonics and Optical Science (IPOS) at the University of Sydney. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, IEEE Photonics and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE).

Speaking about this prestigious appointment, professor Eggleton said that he was thrilled to represent Australia on the internationally respected Board and explained what he hoped the society could achieve

"I would like to see the Photonics Society invest in more programs that stimulate and encourage young researchers to be more entrepreneurial," said Professor Eggelton.

He said the challenge is to translate the research being done in Universities into real world products and to foster better collaboration between academia and industry. Professor Eggleton begins his tenure on the IEEE Photonics Society Board of Governors in 2015 for a period of three years, till the end of 2017.
