Can you joke about your research?

15 September 2011

Is there a humorous story about your work you're bursting to share with a non-academic audience? There may be a spot for you in theFamous Spiegeltentat the 2012 Sydney Festival!

This is the third year of our partnership with the Sydney Festival and for 2012 we're recreating the 'Bright Club' - a UK collaboration that combined a bunch of interesting comedians and musicians with some of the fascinating people who work for one of the UK's best universities, University College London.

Over three consecutive Wednesdays in January, University of Sydney academics will take to the Famous Spiegeltent stage in Sydney's Hyde Park to entertain the Festival crowd- and provide some nourishment for the mind in an evening where comedy and brains collide. Hosted by a well-known stand-up comedian, the evening will also feature live music.

So, could you see yourself on stage next January? We're looking for around a dozen University of Sydney academics to perform an eight-minute stand-up routine based on an area of their research. Participants will receive coaching from stand-up experts. It should bring a smile to all our faces!

If you're interested, send an email to university.communications@sydney.edu.au. All University of Sydney academics and PhD researchers are eligible.
