Two Sydney researchers named ATSE Fellows

Two University of Sydney researchers, Professor Thomas Maschmeyer and Professor Ronald Trent, have been elected as 2011 Fellows of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE).

Professor Maschmeyer- an ARC professorial Future Fellow and Professor of Chemistry - performs ground breaking research in materials and catalysts. He has applied his science to new commercial developments overseas and in Australian.

In addition to his many patents, Professor Maschmeyer has received distinguished awards for science and technology.

Professor Trent - Foundation Professor of Medical Molecular Genetics- has been pivotal to the establishment of molecular medicine as a new clinical discipline and of laboratory genetics as a new specialty within the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

His research work has led to the introduction of state of the art genetic testing for Australian patients and he has played a key role as chair of NHMRC's two major human genetics committees.
