The Authority of Science: Is science just another voice in the policy debate?
8 April 2011
Co-presented by the Tilburg Centre for Logic and Philosophy of Science, Tilburg University, The Netherlands, and the Sydney Centre for the Foundations of Science, University of Sydney.
Is science just another voice in the policy debate?
Join us for a roundtable discussion as our four panellists, distinguished scientists in their own right, address questions relating to the authority of science. What is it about the nature of science that confers epistemic authority on scientific opinion, and what are the scope and limits of that authority?
Panellists include chair Paul Willis (ABC TV science program Catalyst), Professor Theodore L Brown (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign), Professor David Castle (Chair of Innovation in the Life Sciences, University of Edinburgh), Professor Rosemary Lyster (University of Sydney, inaugural Professor of Climate and Environmental Law), and Professor Christian List (London School of Economics, Professor of Political Science and Philosophy).
This event opens the 4th Sydney-Tilburg conference on the philosophy of science, The Authority of Science at the University of Sydney.
The Authority of Science: Is science just another voice in the policy debate? is a free public event - no booking or registration is required.
