Steve Doo, a PhD candidate with Professor Maria Byrne, has been selected asone of the American Australian Association Sir Keith Murdoch Fellows for 2012-2013.

The Sir Keith Murdoch fellowship is a one-year scholarship to support Americans studying in Australia. Steve's fellowship is for marine science. "I am looking at resiliency in large benthic foraminifera in tropical coral reef ecosystems," said Steve. His research aims to uncover the effects of climate change on foraminifera (which are protists with a calcium carbonate shell), particularly as the ocean warms and acidifies.

The awards were presented at a benefit dinner in early June attended by the then prime minister, Ms Julia Gillard. Steve was presented with his award by the Chairman of the American Australian Association and the US Ambassador to Australia.
