Interim arrangements for Education Portfolio

25 July 2013

Following last week's announcement that Professor Derrick Armstrong will not be seeking a renewal of his appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and Registrar, I have put in place a number of reporting re-alignments to ensure that the work of the Education Portfolio continues seamlessly.

The following staff will now report directly to me and, alongside their current responsibilities, will undertake a number of increased accountabilities:

  • Professor Marie Carroll, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), will cover the functional delegations of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), as set out in the "Education and Student Management" section (Part 13) of the Administrative Delegations of Authority.
  • Professor Tyrone Carlin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education Operations) will assume oversight of Student Support Services, headed by Jordi Austin, and the Social Inclusion Unit, headed by Annette Cairnduff.
  • Mr David Pacey, Executive Director and Portfolio Manager, has been appointed Acting Registrar and will exercise the functional delegations of Registrar, as also contained in the Administrative Delegations of Authority.

I am continuing my discussions with SEG on how best to support and progress the University's strategies in education and student life, and will provide you with further information in due course.

Yours sincerely
Michael Spence
