Meet our staff: Edyta Weber

12 June 2013

Meet Edyta Weber, Human Resource Officer in HR. Edyta may look familiar to you because she features in the 'contacts and connections' section of the intranet. She took part in our March staff photo shoot along with many other staff members from a variety of divisions.

What is your role at the University and what does it entail?

I started working here 15 years ago in Human Resources, in Fisher Library. My role at the University is to support the staff to the best of my abilities and to allow them to concentrate on their jobs without having to worry too much about human resources. I try to assist and simplify the process for them as much as possible and give them the feeling of being taken care off.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy client contact. I like the satisfaction of having a happy client at the end of the phone line or email trail. As well as all the friends I made at the University. We do have a lot of nice people working here.

Tell us about the best meal you've ever had.

I love my food so it is hard to choose but when I was young I had a delicious mushroom sauce and I love mushrooms to this day. The runner up is ice cream I had in Greece, it was very intense in flavour and simply delicious. So I would say life without mushrooms and ice cream would be very difficult for me!

Where is your favourite place on earth? Why?

They are many favourites and I wish I could travel more. I always love going back to Poland because of the memories and old friends but Africa made a huge impression on me. To see the wildlife in their own habitat not in a zoo, was a great experience. Victoria falls are absolutely stunning.

What's the one thing about you that would surprise people who have just met you?

People may think that I am a very confident person when they meet me but I am actually quite shy.

What's the bravest thing you've ever done?

Maybe not the bravest but the scariest thing was to leave everything behind and escape to Austria with just one suitcase, no language and no option of return.
