NTEU meeting supports proposed Enterprise Agreement

I am writing to let you know that a meeting of NTEU members held at lunchtime today has agreed to support the University's proposed Enterprise Agreement.
If passed by a staff vote, this agreement will ensure University of Sydney staff remain the highest paid of any university in Australia, and continue to enjoy the best working conditions in the sector.
In addition to a $540 sign-on bonus, the proposed agreement will provide staff with a 2.9 percent salary increase per annum, for every year of the five-year agreement. The first increase will be paid in October 2013, with subsequent increases in July 2014, 2015, 2016 and March 2017.
In addition to the working conditions already negotiated under the EA, the University will also provide:
- All staff with one additional concessional day, to be taken during the Christmas closedown period,
- Academic staff with access on approval by their supervisor to three research days each year,
- Professional staff with access on approval by their supervisor to three professional development days each year, in addition to the five offered under the current agreement.
This is an excellent deal for staff, and one that supports our future financial sustainability. I am particularly pleased that we have reached a mutually beneficial resolution with the NTEU, and hope that we can now bring an end to disruption of our students' learning experience. The NTEU strike planned for three days next week will no longer go ahead.
