Extended Christmas closedown

24 October 2013

Our proposed Enterprise Agreement would provide staff with an extra concessional day over the Christmas closedown period.  The University is working with the staff unions and bargaining representatives to complete drafting before we proceed to a staff vote to approve the proposed agreement, which we hope to do in the next few weeks.

Nevertheless, Christmas is fast approaching and I am sure you would welcome advance notice on how this additional concessional day would operate for the 2013/14 closedown.

If staff approve the proposed agreement in the upcoming ballot, the additional concessional day would be Wednesday 18 December. This means that the University would shut down at close of business on Tuesday 17 December, rather than Wednesday 18 December.  The University will reopen on Thursday 2 January.

Please check the intranet for further detail in relation to arrangements for the 2013/14 Christmas closedown, including for staff who may need to work for operational reasons. If the proposed agreement is approved in the upcoming ballot, staff who have already received approval to take leave on 18 December would have this day reversed and their leave balance would be adjusted.

It has been a busy year, and the extended Christmas closedown is a good opportunity for a well-earned break.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Spence
