Coordination of our international strategies and activities in 2013
14 August 2012
I wish to advise you of the arrangements which have now been made to coordinate our international strategies and activities in 2013, following the conclusion of Professor John Hearn's term as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) on 30 December 2012.
John has served as a principal officer of the University since January 2004, first as deputy vice-chancellor academic and international to April 2006, and since as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International). From July 2009 he has served 40 percent time also as Chief Executive of the Worldwide Universities Network. Throughout he has served as Professor of Reproductive Physiology in the School of Medical Sciences, where his teaching and research is in stem cell science and regenerative medicine.
I have asked Sandra Meiras, Director of International Services, to manage the International Portfolio and to report to me directly. This will enable me to consider how best to organise and focus our international endeavours for the future.
I am, of course, deeply grateful to Professor Hearn for his sterling efforts to promote the University and its interests internationally. We will honour him appropriately later this year at an occasion on a date to be advised in November.
