Belov and the 'little devils'

ARC Future Fellow Dr Kathy Belov, a geneticist in the University of Sydney's Faculty of Veterinary Science, is on a mission to save the Tasmanian Devil population from diminishing further. Her research work is about identifying the link between their genetic make-up and contagious facial tumours threatening the species' survival. She is the driving force behind Devil Rock, the music industry campaign to save the devil launched by Hon Peter Garrett and veteran rocker Jon English. In 2009 Belov won the prestigious Eureka People's Choice Award (the 'Oscar' of the science community) - the Australian public voted her as their favourite scientist.

Read about Dr Kathy Belov's work in the Los Angeles Times cover story,"Australia wildlife: Drumming up support for Tasmania's unsexy beast', by Julie Cart, March 27, 2011.
