Faculty shines at recent conferences

Congratulations to our highly successful cardiovascular researchers, Professor Robyn Gallagher and PhD candidate Kai Jin, who have both recently “wowed” international, multidisciplinary audiences at the Australian Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Association (ACRA) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) conferences.

Professor Gallagher was elected by peers to give the CSANZ Cardiovascular Nursing Council keynote address, and Kai Jin won the highly competitive CSANZ Nursing Affiliate Research Prize for her wonderful research on CVD risk factors in Chinese populations. Kai Jin is also the current Skellern PhD Scholarship holder. Being elected to deliver the keynote lecture (which was widely described as “inspirational”), and winning this research prize are the highest recognition that any cardiac nurse can achieve in Australia and New Zealand.Associate Professor Tom Buckley and Professor Gallagher also gave other invited presentations at CSANZ.

Congratulations to a number of our nursing students who performed well at the conferences:

  • Muaddi Al Harbi (PhD candidate) who was also a CSANZ Nursing Affiliate Research Prize finalist

  • Laila Ladak (PhD candidate) who presented posters at CSANZ and gave an oral presentation at ACRA

  • Anna Woolaston (BNHons candidate)

  • Adrienne Pacleb(BNHons candidate)

  • Lynn (Jia) Li (MPhil candidate)

  • Nicola Straiton (PhD candidate) who gave an oral presentation at ACRA and reached the finals of the University of Sydney 3-Minute-Thesis competition.
