Research units and collaborations

Midwifery and women’s health
Our Midwifery and Women's Health Research Unit is a joint venture between Sydney Nursing School and the Royal Hospital for Women at Randwick. Professor Sally Tracy from Sydney Nursing School heads the team of leading researchers who are setting new trends for women-centred care.

Cancer research
The Cancer Research Nursing unitlocated at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is headed by Professor Kate White. It is a joint initiative between Sydney Nursing School and Sydney Local Health District.

Sleep research
We are proud to collaborate with the Woolcock Institute on sleep research. The Woolcock Institute is located in Glebe, and comprises a multidisciplinary team dedicated to understanding and treating respiratory and sleep disorders.

Cardiovascular health and disease
The Sydney Nursing School collaborates on research into cardiovascular disease at the Charles Perkins Centre, where Robyn Gallagher is our inaugural Professor of Nursing. We also work with the Kolling Institute on research into cardiovascular health.

Rehabilitation nursing research
The Rehabilitation Nursing Research and Development Unit, located at Royal Rehabilitation Centre in Ryde, is developing the body of knowledge on rehabilitation and disability.

Our researchers also engage in collaborations across dementia care, trauma care, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.


2015 and beyond
In early 2015, we will be opening two new research centres; a Mental Health Unit at Vincent’s Private Hospital, and a Nursing and Midwifery Research Unit in partnership with Sydney Local Health District.
