Applications open in August each year for the following March intake

You should first read the information below, and determine whether you must apply through UAC International or apply directly through the University.

Definition of 'international student'

An international student is a student from overseas (including New Zealand permanent residents) or a temporary resident

UAC international applications

You apply through the University Admission Centre (UAC) International if you are currently studying towards one of the following qualifications:

  • an Australian Year 12 qualification (eg NSW HSC, Victorian VCE, SA Matriculation) either inside or outside of Australia
  • the New Zealand Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 in New Zealand

International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) applicants seeking admission to the University of Sydney may apply either directly to the International Student Office or through UAC International.

Direct international applications

If you are NOT studying either of the above qualifications in the current year, you should apply directly to the University of Sydney. To be considered for admission, international students must meet the English language requirements. You must also satisfy one of the following undergraduate entry requirements:

To make a direct application to the University of Sydney you can:

Applications close 2 December for direct entry international applications. As part of the application process, all international applicants will be required to submit a non-refundable Application Processing Fee (APF) payment of $AUD100.

University of Sydney Foundation Program

If you don't have an acceptable secondary or tertiary qualification, you can apply to the University of Sydney Foundation Program. The University of Sydney’s Foundation Program (USFP) is conducted by Taylors College on behalf of Study Group Australia and the University of Sydney. In order to take the course, you will have to meet entry requirements such as:

  • academic performance
  • minimum entry requirements
  • proficiency in English language.

English language requirements

If you are an international student you must demonstrate English language proficiency. Please see the English language requirements for further information.


Fees for the combined degrees vary for each program. The current fees per year for international students are:

  • Bachelor of Arts/Master of Nursing: $29,520
  • Bachelor of Science/Master of Nursing: $32,880
  • Bachelor of Health Sciences/Master of Nursing $34,080

There may be some increase in fees for 2013. You'll find details about these fees under the International Students tab in the ESSENTIALS column on the Sydney Courses page for Arts/MN, Science/MN and Health Sciences/MN.

Student Services and Amenities fee

International students are required to pay $131.50 for full-time study each semester.


The University of Sydney has many scholarships available for international students. The Royal College of Nursing Australia is currently offering the Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme and Aged Care Nursing Scholarships for pre-registration students.
