Overseas registration process

If you are a graduate seeking registration outside Australia, there are a number of steps you need to take.

• You should organise your paperwork before you leave Australia.*

• You need to contact the relevant overseas registration board and organise for the appropriate forms to be sent to Sydney Nursing School.

• You need to complete the overseas registration form and return it to the School, along with the relevant processing fee.

* You are easier to contact while you are still in Australia. However, if, due to unforeseen circumstances, if you do have to leave the country while your application is being processed, please inform the faculty as soon as possible, and provide your overseas contact details. The University accepts no responsibility for any expenses incurred during the waiting period.

The School provides registering authorities with information which is true, correct and verifiable, according to our records. Overseas application papers are always forwarded to the registration board or agency in question at their request. Students are able to request a copy of this information, however this is not done as a matter of course and it is the School's standard practice to email applicants advising them that the information has been sent.

Time for approval

Provided that the relevant paperwork and processing fee has been submitted, your application and the information supplied by the faculty will be forwarded to the relevant nursing board within 4 to 6 weeks.

Follow-up

You will receive an email informing you that your documentation has been sent to the relevant organisation.

Please do not contact the School until 4 to 6 weeks after the lodgement of the application as it slows down processing time. After this time, you are welcome to check on the progress of your application. Please direct your enquiries to:

If you need to establish links between the University of Sydney and the overseas Nursing Board, you are advised to make an appointment with the relevant academic.

Application fees

The following fee pays for

• your academic transcript
• a breakdown of your theoretical and clinical hours
• a search for and copies of your relevant course and unit of study outlines
• the cost of an express post international envelope in order to provide the relevant registration board with your information as quickly as possible.

Application fee: AUD$70.00

Payment methods

Cheque or money order to be made out to the "University of Sydney"

Credit card – Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners cards accepted

Applications will not be processed unless the above information is verified as correct by the Cashier's Office of the University of Sydney.
