Sydney University Nursing Society (SUNS)

The University of Sydney Nursing Society is a group open to all students studying nursing. Collectively students are encouraged to share the journey of becoming nurses together, and we seek to instil a sense of community to our members.

We have a keen interest in making the most of our university days and do this by holding regular social and sporting events as the annual faculty ball. Our members are students from lots of different backgrounds and we are committed to being a part of the student body and supporting each other throughout this journey.

Our heads for 2013 are Natalie Armstrong (President) and Phoebe O'Carrigan (Vice President). Both have been active SNS student ambassadors and have been every involved with SUNS. Their first function will be hosting International Nurses Day.

BBQ fundraiser for Care Packs for the homeless

On Monday 28 October SUNS and the Student Alumni Association (SAA) had a fundraising barbecue to raise money to help cover the costs of Care Packs for the homeless (at about $8 a kit).

Each year nearly 30,000 people seek the assistance of homeless shelters around Sydney. These shelters offer a haven for those in need, a place to get a bed, a shower, a meal and health care. However, there is a need for these people to take away with them some items that help ensure their ongoing health, hygiene and comfort.

Working with Matthew Talbot Hostel, Sydney Nursing School students, staff, alumni and friends will be joining together to pack these items into kits that will be distributed through homeless shelters.

Sydney Nursing School is holding a packing day on 2 December 2013 where staff, students, alumni and friends will create up to 5000 kits for Sydney’s homeless. Find out more
