Cynthia joined Sydney Nursing School at the University of Sydney in late 2009 in a conjoint position to the now Sydney Local Health District (Royal Prince Alfred Hospital), working in the role of Clinical Nurse Consultant in Consultation Liaison Mental Health within the general hospital setting. Cynthia is a registered nurse with over 20 years experience in mental health nursing and has practised in the acute and rehabilitation inpatient settings, community and the emergency department. Her areas of interest include holistic and integrated nursing care practices with a focus on the interface between physical and mental health; mental health and risk assessment; emotional intelligence; and clinical supervision for nurses.

Research interests

Cynthia’s research interests include:

  • the co-association between physical illness and mental health
  • mental health education and promotion for health professionals and the community
  • carer and consumer participation and the recovery process
  • advance care practices in mental health
  • clinical supervision for nurses
  • holistic approaches to nursing care
