Biographical details
Dr Ramin Rohanizadeh received his PhD degree in 1998 from the University of Nantes (France) in biomedical science: biomaterials and biomineralisation. He then joined Professor LeGeros' team at the College of Dentistry, New York University, where he developed calcium phosphate-based biomaterials for orthopaedic and dental applications. Dr Rohanizadeh commenced a postdoctoral fellowship in 2003 in Professor Mason's group at the Department of Physiology, University of Sydney, on bone tissue engineering. Following this, he worked until 2006 as a senior scientist at Avastra Ltd, a Sydney-based biotech research and development firm specialising in implantable and biodegradable protein-based devices. Since 2006, Dr Rohanizadeh has been an academic member of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sydney. His research involves tissue engineering, biomaterials, nano-formulation, and implantable drug delivery devices. He has published 65 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. His work has been cited more than1000 times and his h-index is 16 (ISI Web of knowledge).
Research interests
Biomaterials, tissue engineering, nano-formulation, and drug delivery devices, particularly:
- Hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on titanium implant as a carrier for delivery of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs).
- Modulating protein adsorption onto the surface of calcium phosphate biomaterials.
- Preventing biofilm formation onto the surface of polymeric medical devices: topography modifications and embedding silver nanoparticles into the polymer.
- Improving bioavailability and anticancer properties of curcumin: curcumin nano-formulation.
- Developing laponite/alginate composite for tissue engineering and drug carrier.
