Biographical details

Dr Sarira El-Den is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy and a registered pharmacist. In 2018, she was awarded her PhD at the School of Pharmacy, The University of Sydney. Sarira is a mental health researcher and her work focuses around pharmacists’ roles in mental health screening and care. Sarira’s PhD thesis was entitled “Building Capacity for Pharmacists in Perinatal Depression Care – Development, Implementation and Psychometric Evaluation of Instruments to Measure Literacy, Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviours”. During her PhD, Sarira also concurrently undertook and completed a Masters in International Public Health through the Sydney School of Public Health. She is interested in mental health, education and public health research within the field of pharmacy practice. Sarira enjoys teaching and is an accredited Mental Health First Aid instructor. Sarira is currently a Clinical Placements Coordinator at the School of Pharmacy.

Research interests

The role of pharmacists in perinatal depression care and screening

The measurement of observed behaviours among healthcare professionals and students post health training/interventions

The development and psychometric testing of measurement instruments (e.g. surveys)

Teaching and supervision

Dr El-Den is currently the Clinical Placements Coordinator for the 3rd year Bachelor of Pharmacy unitPHAR3100 . She is also an accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor and is involved in delivering MHFA training to Bachelor and Masters Pharmacy students.

Dr El-Den is currently supervising a Summer Scholar and Pharmacy Honours student.
