Clinical Residency 1
Coordinator: TBC
Main focus of the placement: Introduction to pharmacy practice; communication skills; application of therapeutic knowledge to patient care
Objectives of the placement:
- Observe the role of the pharmacist, and its relationship to those of other healthcare professionals within the healthcare team
- Utilise communication skills to educate pharmacy clients (patients, pharmacists, health professionals, peers)
- Develop clinical knowledge by observing, monitoring and researching the application of pharmacotherapy to patient care, focussing on the core therapeutic areas (cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrinology)
Clinical Residency 2
Coordinator: Professor Andrew McLachlan
Main focus of the placement: Medication reviews; introduction to specialty practice settings
Objectives of the placement:
- To gain practice and information gathering skills, and to apply prior knowledge from the core therapeutic areas of previous semesters
- Gain experience in undertaking medication management reviews and related processes
- Gain insight into pharmacy practice within various healthcare and professional settings
- Placement sites include specialty and elective practice settings such as: specialty hospital pharmacy, specialty commmunity pharmacy, industry, rural pharmacy practice, government organisations, etc
