Nano Biocharacterisation


The nanoIR is a level-based measurement tool that reveals the chemical composition of samples at the nanoscale. This system combines key elements of both nanoscale IR spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM) to enable the acquisition of infrared spectra at spatial resolutions well beyond the optical diffraction limit.

In addition to revealing chemical composition, the nanoIR system provides high-resolution characterization of local topographic, mechanical, and thermal properties. Potential application areas span the realms of polymer science, materials science, and life science, including detailed studies of structure-property correlations. Room N236.

NMR spectrometer

The facility has a new fully automated State of Art Spectrometer Varian Gemini 2000, a 400MR System with SMS Auto sampler. The System has Pulsed Field Gradients & PFG 5mm ATB Broadband Probe 1H/19F/X, the Magnet is a Premium Shielded, long hold magnet with up to 270 days Liquid Helium hold time.

This acquisition will enable researchers to carry out the latest experiments with minimal effort and with excellent sensitivity. Room S248.

X-Ray chararacterisation

The SuperNova (Dual) Diffractometer System combines the hi-flux micro-focus sources with one of the last, self-optimizing S2 CCD detectors. This combination of high intensity and fast, large active area CCD enables rapid data collection, with easy software-switching between molybdenum and copper wavelengths, for small molecule and protein crystallography. Atomic Absorption Spectrometer

The AA-7000F Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer features high-sensitivity analysis, flexible system configuration, and a compact footprint for user-friendly operation. Room S222.

Computing Biology

The School supports the latest in software for computational drug design. The state-of-the-art Schrödinger suite covers small molecule drug discovery, the ability to design biologics, materials design and discovery informatics.

For high-end quantum chemical calculations the School has Gaussian09, GAMESS and Jaguar packages.
