Scholarships

There are a number of unique scholarship opportunities available to students studying Pharmacy at the University of Sydney. In addition to those listed below, the University of Sydney's Scholarships and Financial Support Service (see link on right) offers many other scholarship schemes worth considering if you are eligble.

Undergraduate scholarships.


Undergraduate scholarships are generally awarded based on a combination of school examination results, ATAR and other factors. The University offers scholarships to continuing undergraduate students based on merit. Each year, applications close in September.

Blooms the Chemist - John Sidgreaves Scholarship


Background

Available to third year domestic students, this scholarship was established to honour the commitment and outstanding contributions of John Sidgreaves to the School of Pharmacy and profession of community pharmacy.

Who should apply for this scholarship?

  • students entering their fourth and final year of the degree
  • students from a lower socio-economic background (as determined by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC))
  • students with a minimum credit average in the first three years of the degree
  • students with a proven interest in community pharmacy who have
    been employed by a pharmacy full-time of part-time for a minimum of one year.

Peter Giles Memorial Scholarship in Pharmacy



Background
Established by Mrs Judith Giles in honour of her late husband Mr Peter Giles, an alumnus of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, to support commencing undergraduate students studying the Bachelor of Pharmacy, who can demonstrate financial disadvantage.

Open to
Students commencing their first year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy.
Australian citizen or permanent residents enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place who are able to provide evidence of AUSTUDY, ABSTUDY, Youth Allowance or other payments from the Department of Human Services.

Value
$6,000 per year

Tenable for 4 years

Postgraduate scholarships are offered to students undertaking coursework or research.

Scholarship for citizens of Timor Leste


Background

Every year, the School of Pharmacy offers one scholarship to citizens of Timor Leste to undertake the graduate entry Master of Pharmacy program.

Who should apply for this scholarship?
Citizens of Timor Leste who have:

  • a prior bachelor’s degree
  • the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA), sat the Graduate Australian Medical Admissions Test (GAMSAT) or sat the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
  • the minimum of 42 out of 54 credit points, or equivalent, in seven prerequisite subjects at university level.
  • English language proficiency (if relevant).

Postgraduate research scholarships.


We are committed to delivering a rich, vibrant research program and offers several postgraduate research scholarships to encourage promising research students to connect with our prolific academic ranks. In addition to the faculty-specific scholarships, there are also a variety of University-wide scholarships and grants available to local and international research students.

PhD Scholarship in The Community Pharmacy - research into policy

This exciting PhD Scholarship was created to promote the integrity of the pharmacist as a public health professional. The project will be part of the multidisciplinary program on Research Integrity and Science Policy with a dual focus:

  1. Describing cultural, social, corporate, political and other influences on the design, conduct and dissemination of research.

  2. Conducting cutting edge methodological research to advance the science of evidence synthesis and use of evidence syntheses for policy decisions.


This highly competitive scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be undertaking full-time postgraduate study by research through Pharmacy at the University of Sydney based at the Charles Perkins Centre.

Quality Use of Medicines in Dementia PhD/Top-up Scholarship


Background

Medication management can be described as a complex system. The project is to develop a model for medication management for dementia in primary care. A focus will be the ongoing management of psychotropic medication. The research will be interdisciplinary incorporating pharmacy, nursing, general practice, clinical geriatrics, psychology and health services.

Who should apply for this scholarship?

  • Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.
  • the scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a good honours degree or equivalent in pharmacy, nursing, medicine or a health science discipline to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Pharmacy.
  • applicants should have an interest in pharmacotherapy and ideally have experience in the monitoring, review or prescribing of medication, either as a nurse, pharmacist or prescriber


Scholarship value

This scholarship will be valued at the same rate as the Australian The scholarship will be valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award, and will be indexed annually. It may be renewed for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress. For candidates that are successful in obtaining an APA, a top-up scholarship to the value of $10,000 per annum is possible.

The University of Sydney Pharmacy PhD Scholarship


Background

This scholarship is available on a highly competitive basis for domestic students commencing a full-time PhD with Pharmacy, the University of Sydney.

Who should apply for this scholarship?

  • Domestic students
  • candidates with a bachelor degree with first class honours (or H1 equivalent results)
  • candidates commencing a full-time study PhD with Pharmacy at the University of Sydney.


Scholarship value

The scholarship shall be valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), and indexed annually.

The Ross Brown Postgraduate Scholarship


Background

The Ross Brown Postgraduate Scholarship was established in 2007 with a donation by Mr Ross Brown, AM RFD ED to support Higher Research Degree students in Pharmacy at the University of Sydney.

The Pharmacy Alumni Postgraduate Scholarship


Background

The Pharmacy Alumni Postgraduate Scholarship, established by a donation by Mr Ross Brown, AM RFD ED to support Higher Research Degree students in the Pharmacy, University of Sydney.

Who should apply for this scholarship?

  • Domestic students
  • candidates with a bachelor degree with first class honours (or H1 equivalent results)
  • candidates conducting research with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital will be an added benefit .

This scholarship will be valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award and indexed annually. May be renewed for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress.

Scholarships open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.


The School of Pharmacy offers a number of scholarships designed to support both undergraduate and postgraduate students, by offering special conditional assistance, or an enriched co-curricular learning program.

Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme


Background

The Rural Pharmacy Scholarships have been established to provide financial support to encourage and enable students from rural and remote communities to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies in pharmacy at university level.

Who should apply for this scholarship?

  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • candidates must be a member of the student Rural Health Club or a member of the Universities affiliated Rural Health Club
  • candidates must have resided in a defined rural area for a minimum of five consecutive years, or eight cumulative years from the age of five years.
  • candidates must be enrolled as a full-time student in a pharmacy undergraduate or graduate degree at an Australian university that will lead them to becoming a registered pharmacist.


Scholarship value

This scholarships value is $10,000 per year, per student (therefore, $40,000 per student over a four year period). There are up to 30 scholarships offered annually.

How to apply?

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of individual student application that will be assessed against the eligibility criteria, as detailed on the 6th Community Pharmacy Agreement.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme (ATSIPSS)


Background

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme aims to encourage Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies in pharmacy at university. It is acknowledged that if the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are to be adequately met by pharmacists, there is a need for more Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander pharmacists working in the industry.

Who should apply for this scholarship?

  • candidates must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • candidates must be enrolled or about to be enrolled, as a full-time student in a pharmacy undergraduate or graduate degree at an Australian university that will lead them to become a registered pharmacist
  • scholarships are available to students in any year of their undergraduate or graduate degree
  • candidates must be a member of the student Rural Health Club or a member of the University’s affiliated Rural Health Club
  • candidates who are from a rural or remote location will have an added benefit. Although not a mandatory criterion, scholarships will be offered preferentially to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who currently live, or have lived, in a rural or remote community.


Scholarship value

This scholarships value is $15,000 per year, per student (therefore, $60,000 per student over a four year period). There are up to 3 scholarships offered annually.

Summer Vacation Scholarships

Background

Pharmacy at the University of Sydney is pleased to offer Summer Scholarship opportunities to students (local and international) currently enrolled in an undergraduate pharmacy, science, medical or equivalent physical or natural science degree in Australian and New Zealand universities; or Master of Pharmacy students at the University of Sydney.

The Pharmacy Summer Scholarships are a unique opportunity to gain research experience while working with world-renowned academics in a leading centre for Pharmacy education in Australia. Collaborative projects are offered in a range of areas, covering medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics/drug delivery, pharmacogenomics, and pharmacy practice and education.

Who should apply for this scholarship?

  • enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis in the second or third year of their undergraduate degree program in pharmacy, science, medical or equivalent physical or natural science at an Australian or New Zealand University.
  • enrolled on a full time or part time basis in the Master of Pharmacy program at the University of Sydney.

Pharmacy Cricket Scholarship


Background

Pharmacy Cricket has made two scholarships available to any student studying at a pharmacy school or university in Australia.

Who should apply for this scholarship:

  • candidates must be a currently enrolled Bachelor of Pharmacy or Master of Pharmacy student.
  • candidates do not need to have any interest or involvement with cricket to apply.


Scholarship value

The value of this scholarship is $2500 per student to two students

Faculty prizes .


The Faculty of Pharmacy awards prizes to continuing undergraduate students based on performance and merit. There is no application process for prizes; students who have been awarded a prize based on merit will be notified.
