Chief Procurement Officer
Harry Banga, BCE UNSW, LLB Macquarie, MCIPS
Harry joined the University in December 2008. Harry's focus at the University will be to deliver an annual cost take out in excess of $20 million to the University by implementing a functional category management approach and introducing efficiencies in the three key layers of business:
- products and services
- systems and processes
- skilled and empowered people.
Harry has refocussed procurement energies into providing both university-wide benefits, as well as value creation through best practice procurement services dedicated to supporting the University's research and teaching community and enhancing the student experience.
Harry has extensive and diverse experience from senior roles in both the public and private sectors in the fields of property, retail, construction and water resources industries. In Harry's previous role as the Group General Manager of NSW Procurement, he led significant change within the procurement environment and brought about improvement and innovation to the way government business has traditionally been conducted. NSW Procurement is a self funding business within the government which generates close to $50 million per annum in revenue and delivers ongoing annual savings of $330 million across a $4 billion goods and services portfolio.
Associate Director
Sarah Collins, BSc (Hons) UNSW, MCIPS
Sarah has been working at The University of Sydney since May 2008 and is currently in the role of Associate Director. Sarah manages the Procurement Services team from both an operational and strategic perspective as they implement a wholesale change in Procurement to introduce category management and implement a new, non-linear, agile Procurement delivery model. Sarah is also driving ongoing value adding continuous improvement initiatives via the products and processes that Procurement Services provides to the University.
Sarah has over 15 years of Supply Chain experience working for global multi-national organisations within the Financial Services and Manufacturing sectors. She has been a Procurement Professional for over 11 years focusing on Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Management, Category Management and Contract Management both domestically and within the Asia region across highly fragmented locations and spend portfolios.
Sarah obtained a Bachelor of Science (Manufacturing Management) from UNSW and has been admitted as a full member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS - Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply). She is also the CIPS NSW Chair, and is highly active in the Australian procurement community.
Procurement Manager
Lisa May, BSc (Hons) Arizona State University, CIPS Associate Member
Lisa joined the University in 2007 and leads one of the teams within Procurement Services that is focussed on Category Management, direct spend needs of the University's research community, and business efficiencies.
Prior to joining the University, Lisa was part of the management team at Rolls Royce plc (UK), where she led business transformations in the procurement environment which exceeded cost savings targets and customer service levels. Lisa has held domestic and global procurement roles in the manufacturing and semiconductor industries.
Lisa holds an honours bachelor's degree in Procurement from Arizona State University, with specialisations in International Business and Japanese. She is currently studying towards a MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM).
Procurement Manager
David McManus, BA Dublin, NatDip Dundalk, CIPS Diploma Member
David joined Procurement Services in June 2008. David will be focused on Category management and will play a leading role in developing a standardised procurement delivery process.
Since joining the University, David has successfully closed several projects which have resulted in over $2 million in certified savings to the University across a diverse range of spend areas including construction and major equipment. David has previously held procurement roles at IBM and General Electric.
David holds an honours bachelor's degree in Business Management and a National Diploma in Electronic Engineering. David is also currently studying towards full membership status with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
Manager, University Publishing Service
Judith Berghan, MBA GCCM UNSW
Judith currently manages a team of 10 people at the University Publishing Service. Working within Procurement Services, Judith also provides strategic direction and leadership across the Print Category, which includes printing, design, eCommunications and Imaging and Copy Devices.
Recently, Judith's role and that of the UPS team has moved focus from mainly printed communication materials to introducing eCommunications and the concept of 'communication media of choice' to the University community.
Judith has been with the University since 2007. Prior to this she worked in the news media industry with Fairfax Pty Ltd and News Ltd. She has completed the AICD Company Director's course and is currently studying for a Master of Political Economy.
Senior Procurement Specialist
Tabassum Humza, BCom Mumbai, MCom (Hons) Sydney, CIPS Affiliate Member
Tabassum is a Senior Procurement Specialist with Procurement Services. Tabassum joined the Procurement team in 2005, with a background in business process reengineering, and logistics experience in the film production industry in Mumbai. While Tabassum's working life commenced in the Indian subcontinent, the majority of her work experience has been within the Australian environment.
Tabassum has led many services and major research equipment projects for the University, delivering benefits in the areas of 'whole of life cost' considerations, reduction of risk in supply contracts and contract management for time critical delivery in multi-supplier arrangements. Her current focus is applying the category management discipline to Fleet, and taking the lead on major research equipment projects.
Tabassum is a postgraduate of the University of Sydney and an Affiliate member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
Senior Procurement Specialist
Sujee Mampitiyarachchi, BE/BSc (Hons) Sydney, CIPS Affiliate Member
Sujee started with the team in 2009, and is currently the category manager for travel, computing and software. Sujee also leads the corporate card strategy. Key achievements have included establishing a client computing roadmap and embedding a risk management approach to software licensing.
In addition, Sujee has led a number of special projects such as quote waiver automation and e-procurement review. Sujee's next focus is to evolve the University's travel management.
Sujee was formerly a technology consultant at IBM Global Business Services.
Procurement Specialist
Amal Eid, MSc(Log) UOW, DipCom UNE, MCIPS
Amal was appointed as a Procurement Specialist of the University of Sydney in October 2008. Amal specialises in Category Management for Stationery and Office Supplies as well as looking after the direct spend needs of the University's research community via her work on major equipment projects.
Amal is a graduate of the University of New England and the University of Wollongong and a full accredited Member of The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply in Australia. Amal is a Procurement Professional with over 11 years experience working in many industries ranging from Government to Finance, IT&T to Construction. Amal has lived and worked overseas giving her a more global perspective on procurement and best practice.
Procurement Specialist
Srinath Vitanage, BCom UNSW, CA, CIPS Affiliate Member
Srinath joined the Procurement Services team as a Procurement Services Officer in April 2009 within the Category Management arm of the division.
In his previous role Srinath worked for Qantas Catering as a Senior Pricing Analyst ensuring that airline menus were priced appropriately to deliver the highest possible margins to the business as well as reviewing process efficiencies and cost minimisation. Prior to the role at Qantas Catering, Srinath worked for Colonial First State as a Fund Accountant and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu as an Analyst.
Srinath holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the University of New South Wales and is a certified Chartered Accountant. Srinath is also an Affiliate member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
Procurement Specialist
Shawn Lee, BAppSc (ComSci) RMIT, MCom Sydney, CIPS Affiliate Member
Shawn was appointed Procurement Specialist after joining the University of Sydney as a Procurement Analyst in March 2010. During this time, Shawn has worked on a number of key projects and initiatives that provided significant value-for-money to the University.
Prior to joining the University, Shawn successfully managed a $60 million mortgage lending portfolio as a banker at Commonwealth Bank.
Shawn holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Computer Science) from RMIT University and a Master of Commerce (Accounting) from University of Sydney. Shawn is also a CIPS Affiliate Member.
Senior Procurement Analyst
Dominic Heah, BE (Hons) Sydney, CIPS Affiliate Member
Dominic is tasked with analysing the University's spend data and related business processes to aid in strategic procurement decision making in line with the department's functional category management approach. Dominic's focus also includes the end-to-end management of procurement e-systems as well as successful adoption by the wider University through web communications.
To date, Dominic has provided the procurement team with meaningful spend analytics and business intelligence incorporating cleansed data from various financial systems. He has also successfully implemented several key procurement systems, such as a Business Intelligence platform and a Contract Lifecycle Management System.
Financial Analyst
Sara Liu, BEconIntTrade CUEB, MCom MLogMan Sydney
Sara commenced working for the University within the Financial Shared Services department before joining the Procurement Services team as a Financial Analyst in April 2008. Sara's goal will be to take the lead on the standardisation of several key financial processes whilst developing an overall understanding of the Procurement function.
Sara holds a Master of Commerce (Accounting) and Master of Logistics Management, both from the University of Sydney.
Travel Management Coordinator
Nicholas Gunn, BA Sydney
Nicholas joined the Procurement Services team in April 2011 and is responsible for operating the Travel Helpdesk. Additionally, he provides support to the Travel category manager around travel strategy and assists with major equipment projects.
Prior to joining the University, Nicholas worked at the Department of Health in the United Kingdom providing executive and procurement support to the Equality and Human Rights Group. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney with majors in Government & International Relations, Social Policy and Gender Studies.
Executive Assistant
Lyn Tiene, Cert IV Frontline Management Competency Training Institute, Cert IV Workplace Training & Assessment Port Macquarie, Advanced TESOL Certification Australasian Training Academy
Lyn joined the Procurement Services team at the University in April 2009, bringing with her extensive experience in executive support, office management and administration across both the private and public sectors, including regional NSW.
Immediately prior to joining the University, Lyn worked at the Department of Commerce (now Department of Finance & Services), specifically in the area of NSW Procurement | Contracting Services.
