- used to carry any load (including towing) in excess of that which is specified by the vehicle's manufacturer or is registered to carry by the relevant motor transport authority
- used to carry any dangerous quantities of anything of an inflammable, explosive, corrosive, toxic or otherwise dangerous nature unless specifically in the normal course of an accepted business activity and, where required, statutory signage is displayed
- driven in a manner or conduct towards other road users, that reflects poorly on the public image of the University
- used for an unlawful purpose or in an un-roadworthy condition
- driven on public roads if the vehicle is unregistered
- driven while using a mobile phone (hands free or otherwise) - the driver must move off the road to a safe place, with the vehicle parked and the handbrake applied.
Restricted use
Unless specifically approved by the Departmental manager or delegate and, if applicable, also approved by the Lease Company, the nominated driver shall ensure that any University vehicle for which they are responsible is not:
- used to transport persons or property for reward
- taken outside Australia
- permanently taken outside the State or Territory in which it is registered.
The nominated driver shall ensure that prior approval is obtained by the Departmental manager, if the University vehicle is to be taken long distances or inter-state for business or private purposes.
Private use
Where University vehicles are provided under conditions that include approved full private use:
- The vehicle is to be driven for private purposes only by the nominated driver, immediate family members, other University employees and any other persons specifically approved by the Departmental manager or delegate. Consistent with the relevant definition contained in the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 immediate family members include:
a) a spouse of the nominated driver
b) an adult child, parent, grandparent, grandchild or sibling of the nominated driver or of a spouse of the nominated driver. - Nominated driver's immediate family members or other specifically approved persons who hold a learner's permit, displaying an "L" plate, or "P1" plate are not authorised to drive the University vehicle and will be in breach of the terms on which it is made available to the employee.
- In the case of a University vehicle being driven by someone other than those specified in this clause, it will be considered unauthorised use and disciplinary and/or legal action may be taken.
