Sustainability

One of the core aims of the ICD service is to improve the sustainability of the print device fleet across the University.

One of the ways this will be achieved is through educated purchasing decisions. CSG will provide a ‘most sustainable’ option in all quotes for new equipment. This will analyse the expected power consumption of the new equipment, based on your estimated volumes, as well as information about the particle emissions and hazardous materials present within the equipment, to come up with a ‘most sustainable’ option.

Additionally, CSG will report on current and proposed carbon consumption during the fleet optimisation programme, ensuring that your carbon output decreases as you optimise your printer fleet.

During the provisioning stage of the service, CSG will provide additional sustainability benefits, including:

  • Defaulting devices to print in black
  • Defaulting devices to print and copy in duplex
  • Setting up scan to email settings, which will reduce the volume of copy jobs produced
  • Power saving modes set to 20 minutes after non-use
  • Sleep mode from 6pm-6am

The implementation of the FollowMe print solution will also reduce print volumes, by eliminating waste and reprinted print jobs. Fax Gateway will also reduce print volume from incoming faxes.

Overall, CSG is charged with delivering a 20% reduction in print volume over the life of the contract.
