Biographical details

Dr Melina Georgousakis is a public health researcher in the area of infectious disease and immunisation. She completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours at the University of Sydney, followed by a PhD and post-doctoral position at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. Her PhD research was focused on the design and development of novel vaccines against the bacterial pathogen Group A Streptococcus. This included recombinant vaccine technology and mucosal vaccine delivery systems. Melina has now moved into public health research of vaccine preventable diseases. She completed a Masters in Public Health at The University of Sydney in 2012. Currently Melina works as a Senior Research Officer at the National Centre for Immunisation Reserch and Surveillance, and holds a conjoint appointment as Lecturer in the School of Public health, University of Sydney. Melina's research focus is in the area of immunisation policy and is the Assistant Technical Editor of The Australian Immunisation Handbook (10th edition; 2013. Melina has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters relating to her research in vaccine preventable disease.
Melina has a strong interest in science communication and is actively involved in the engagement of members of the public, and school students, in her research.
