The internet-of-things (IoT) is becoming an essential technology to support the revolution of various vertical sectors, such as agriculture, industry, energy, healthcare, and transportation. This is achieved through sensing, communications, data analytics, and decision intelligence, etc. To support ubiquitous connections for billions of IoT devices, one critical question is: do we have sufficient radio spectrum? In this project, spectrum sharing techniques will be investigated to support IoT communications.
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Masters/PHD
This project aims to develop spectrum sharing communication techniques for IoT. In particular, the spectrum sharing aspects of ambient backscatter communications will be studied in terms of system capacity, power allocation, cross-layer optimization, and interference cancellation. Multiple antenna technique and cooperative communications will be used for range extensions. The developed techniques will be applicable for industrial wireless networks.
