Delivering on the evidence base in Radiography

Summary

PhD positions are available for study radiation dose and image optimisation methods for all aspects of Radiography and Radiology. The acquisition of images by Radiologic Technologist and Radiographers  can be improved through  evidence based practice and Radiological Interpretation can be examined to extract improvements is diagnosis of disease and injury. PhD students would study dosimetry, radiation physics, medical image optimisation, physiological evaluation of observer performance with the aim of improving and optimising each of these.

Synopsis

Applications are welcome on topics of interest to the field of Optimization in Radiology.

Delivering on the evidence base in Radiography
There is a broad evidence base for mechanism of dose reduction and image optimization in Radiology, however many of these techniques are not put into practice. This study aims to apply these dose reduction techniques to the clinical environment and investigate the effects on dose reduction  and image quality while also investigating to methods through which this change can be managed effectively. This work will be carried out through a mixture of laboratory based experimentation, clinical observation and clinical trials.

Project Duration:
This would be a three year PhD level study, smaller elements of the work are also open to Honors or Masters study.

Candidate profile:
The complexity of the work is appropriate to a graduate with 2:1 class degree or higher in Radiography, Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Science, Psychology, Computer Science and a range of other appropriate disciplines with relation to medical image perception.

Research Group Profile:

Principle Investigators:
