Impact of hyperglycaemia on hospitalised patients

Summary

We are looking at the relationship between hyperglycaemia and adverse hospital outcome in a variety of clinical situations.

Supervisor(s)

Associate Professor Ngai Wah Cheung

Research Location

Westmead Hospital, Diabetes and Endocrinology

Program Type

PHD

Synopsis

We have previously examined the relationship between hyperglycaemia and adverse outcomes in a number of clinical situations including myocardial infarction, use of TPN, and admission through Emergency. We have previously conducted a randomised controlled trial of glucose lowering in myocardial infarction and are currently conducting one in patients receiving TPN. There are a number of other clinical situations that can also be examined for this project. A simple project might involve medical record reviews. If the student is interested and qualified, a clinical component can be included.

Additional Information

Will involve either clinical work or medical records reviews
