About Dr Nicola Parsons

Dr Nicola Parsons’ research is focused on eighteenth century literature and cultural history, with a special interest in cultures of reading. Her monograph, Reading Gossip in Eighteenth-Century England (Palgrave, forthcoming 2007) investigates the relation between print cultures of gossip and literary and political practices. Her current research project, Forging Authors: Piracy, Poaching and Contested Literary Property, investigates the constitutive links between the practices of authors and readers in the emergence of authorship in the long eighteenth century. She also maintains an active research and teaching interest in early modern drama, with a particular focus on Shakespeare. Prior to coming to Sydney, Dr Parsons lectured in the literary studies program at the University of Melbourne.
