About Associate Professor Salvatore Babones

A/Prof Babones is soliciting PhD, Honours, and other research students to work on projects under the rubric Emerging Market Societies to study the societies of economically important developing countries and regions. Specific research topics are flexible and could include all aspects of economic sociology and social policy. Key institutions studied by economic sociologists include schools, healthcare systems, government services, business organizations, supply chains, non-profit organizations, and the family. A/Prof Babones is also particularly interested in the study of economic growth, economic inequality, and the measurement of poverty. Students are especially encouraged who would like to learn how to use quantitative methods to study existing data produced by government agencies and social surveys. No prior mathematical or statistical training is required, but potential students should be curious about quantitative methods and eager to expand their knowledge.
