About Dr Fiona Giles
Dr Giles was appointed to the Media and Communications Department in June 2005. A well-known writer and editor, since graduating in English from Oxford University she has worked in publishing and print journalism and has published six books, 7 book chapters, and numerous journal, magazine and newspaper articles. She is currently on the editorial advisory board of Australian Feminist Studies (Macquarie University). Her research interests are in media, gender and cultural studies; image and affect; and media and the body; in particular, popular representations of breastfeeding in the media and their relationship to maternity and sexuality. Dr Giles is also interested in the relationship between narrative, media and oral history, through the history and practice of literary journalism, within which field she is a continuing to hone her own writing and teaching skills.
