About Dr Justine Gatt

Justine’s research focuses on understanding the role of genes and environment in health and well-being, with a focus on measures of well-being that include brain function (EEG and MRI), autonomic arousal, personality and behavioural assessment.

To understand the interrelationships between different risk markers of poor health – from genes to environment to brain and body mechanisms – in an effort to identify effective intervention strategies that optimize well-being and prevent the onset of mental illness or comorbid physical disease in the general population.

Dr Justine Gatt is an ARC-Linkage Research Fellow in Psychological Medicine at the Brain Dynamics Centre. Justine’s research outcomes to date include over 30 peer-reviewed papers and conference abstracts. Most of these publications are in peer-reviewed international journals, including journals that are leading in their field such as Molecular Psychiatry. Justine has also presented her findings in many national and international conferences including Human Brain Mapping and the Australasian Society for Psychiatric Research. These research outcomes have been recognised by several awards. Justine was awarded the ARC-Linkage Postdoctoral Industry fellowship (2008-2011), the Australian Twins Registry travel award (2008) and the Human Brain Mapping Young Investigator award (2006). Further, Justine has been asked to review several papers for international journals that are leading in their field, including the journal Archives of General Psychiatry.
