Breaches

As part of the ethics approval process, researchers carrying out human research in Australia agree to conduct their research in an ethical manner in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NHMRC, 2007). A research ethics breach occurs where researchers do not comply with the ethical principles and guidance set out by the National Statement, and/or the conditions of their ethical approval . If you would like to report a potential breach, please contact the Manager of Ethics Administration at the University. The University has established processes for handling, considering and seeking to resolve research ethics breaches, which you can find out more about here.

Appeals

If your ethics application or modification request has been reviewed by the University of Sydney HREC and you wish to make an appeal against the HREC’s decision, please contact the Manager of Ethics Administration at the University. The University has established processes for handling and considering such appeals, which you can find out more about here .

Research Misconduct

In some instances a research complaint or human ethics breach may raise concerns that might also constitute research misconduct. The consideration of matters relating to research misconduct is outside the scope of the HREC and will be referred to Research Integrity . Please see the Research Integrity website for more information about research misconduct.
