Aim

The objectives of the DECRA scheme are to:

  • support and advance promising early career researchers;
  • promote enhanced opportunities for diverse career pathways
  • focus research effort in the National Research Priority areas to improve research capacity and policy outcomes; and
  • enable research and research training in high quality and supportive environments.

Eligibility

Eligible to apply if - PhD awarded on or after 1 March 2008 with NO Career Interruption OR on or between 1 March 2005 and 1 March 2008 WITH Career Interruption, for reasons of maternity or parental leave; carer’s responsibility; illness; disruption due to relocation for international post doctoral studies; or non-research employment

Funding

A DECRA offers funding of up to $131,740 per year for 3 years. The per annum salary contribution from the ARC is fixed at $91,470, including 28 per cent on costs, and up to $40,000 project costs. Salary and/or project costs will not be awarded independently.

  3. Read the ARC Funding Rules
  4. Ensure you are registered for the Research Support Bulletin
  5. Read the Sydney Guidelines for DECRA Applicants
  6. Contact the relevant Head of School or Discipline
  7. Create an application in RMS as soon as Application form is made available
  8. Complete Research Proposal Clearance Form and Written evidence proforma (DOC)
