Aim

The Discovery Indigenous scheme provides support for Indigenous Researchers to undertake research projects that may lead to an understanding of a particular subject or that may meet the requirements of their postgraduate research degrees.

The aims of the scheme are to:

  • develop the research expertise of Indigenous Australian researchers;
  • support fundamental research and research training by Indigenous Australian researchers as individuals and as teams;
  • support and retain established Indigenous Australian researchers in Australian higher education institutions; and
  • expand Australia’s knowledge base and research capability

 

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for funding, the project leader must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Funding

Applications may be made for Project Costs only and for a Discovery Indigenous Award (DIA)

Level of funding: $30,000 - $300,000.

Application Process

  1. Read How to apply for an ARC scheme and Prepare a proposal before you start
  2. Contact the Research Grants and Contracts office
  3. Read the ARC Funding Rules for funding commencing in 2013
  4. Submit Request not to Assess form by 27 March 2013
  5. Create application in RMS and submit draft proposal to Research Grants and Contracts by internal closing date
  6. Complete Research Proposal Clearance Form and ARC Certification Proforma
  7. Submit complete final application by final application due date
