Aims

Program Grants provide support for teams of high calibre researchers to pursue broad based, multi-disciplinary and collaborative research activities. Teams will be expected to contribute to new knowledge at a leading international level in important areas of health and medical research.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria include:

  • The Applicant team must include three or more Chief Investigators (CIs);
  • CIs must have one of the following:
  1. Australian or New Zealand citizenship
  2. Australian permanent resident status at the time of application
  • Researchers who will be primarily based overseas for the duration of the grant cannot be named as a CI;
  • Program Grant holders can apply for a new Program Grant in years 4 and 5 of their existing Program Grant only; and NHMRC research time is the total time spent by a CI on all of her/his NHMRC grants.
  • Program Grant applicant CIs can not apply for more grants then they are eligible to hold at the time of funding, taking into account any grants already held.

Application Process
  1. Read How to apply for a NHMRC scheme and Prepare a proposal before you start
  2. Contact the Research Grants and Contracts office
  3. Read the reference material: Program Grants Funding Policy, Advice and instructions for applications, RGMS Program Grants screen shots
  4. Gain access to RGMS
  5. Create application in RGMS and submit draft proposal to Research Grants and Contracts by internal closing date
  6. Complete Research Proposal Clearance Form
  7. Submit complete final application by final application due date
