Aims

The aim of the Program Grants scheme is to provide support for teams of high calibre researchers to pursue broad based, multi-disciplinary and collaborative research activities. Teams will be expected to contribute to new knowledge at a leading international level in important areas of health and medical research. The scheme is available for all research approaches relevant to better health - biomedical, clinical, public health or health services research and is typically for 5 years.

Eligibility

The Applicant team must include three or more Chief Investigators (CIs).

Each CI on the application:

  • must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent residents or have appropriate work visas in place.
  • must be in Australia for at least 80 percent of the funding period.
  • cannot hold another Program Grant as CI
  • cannot apply for a new a new Program Grant in years one, two or three of an existing Program Grant.
  • May apply for a new Program Grant in years four and five of an existing Program Grant.

Changes to the Program Grant scheme for 2016

  • Applicants are no longer required to submit a Project Grant Relinquishment Agreement or Project Grant Variation Agreement. Rather, prior to commencement of Program Grant funding, new Program Grant awardees must submit Grant Variation Requests for all Project Grants they will not be eligible to hold concurrently with the Program Grant
  • Key changes to CV requirements
  • Key changes to the scheme-specific part of the application form

Application Process

  1. Read the reference material: see Resources
  2. Gain access to RGMS
  3. Create application in RGMS and submit draft proposal to Research Grants and Contracts by internal closing date
  4. Complete Research Proposal Clearance Form
  5. Submit complete final application by final application due date
