You may be required to refer to the Fields of Research (FOR) and Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) codes during the preparation of your application.

These codes are also called Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification (ANZSRC) codes. They are used in the collection, analysis and dissemination of research and experimental development (R&D) statistics in Australia and New Zealand.

Field of Research codes (FOR)

FOR codes are used to identify the general topic area in which research is carried out.

Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) codes

The SEO classification allows research and development activity to be categorised according to the intended purpose or outcome of the research, rather than the processes or techniques used in order to achieve this objective.

When selecting FOR and SEO codes from the ABS website please be sure to follow the links at the bottom of the relevant Division page to select the 6 digit subsection code.
