Non-University of Sydney ethics approval
The University of Sydney will accept ethics approvals provided by non-Sydney Human Ethics, Animal Ethics and Biosafety Committees.
The ethics approvals don’t have to be ratified by the University of Sydney Ethics Committee unless they fall under the two clauses described below.
When submitting an approval from a non-Sydney Committee, the protocol information must be accompanied by Notification of Non-University Approval and must be signed by the Chief Investigator and the Head of School or appropriate delegated authority.
Clause 1
The University of Sydney accepts ethics approvals provided by any appropriately constituted ethics committee when the research is being carried out on non-University premises.
For example, for human research carried out in a teaching hospital, we will accept the approval of that hospital/area health services ethics committee.
Where the research is carried out on University premises, or involves students enrolled in the University a request for ratification must be submitted to the University of Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee.
If you require further information please contact Dr Margaret Faedo, Manager of Human Ethics.
Clause 2
If you are transferring animals involved in your study into Animal Houses under the control of University of Sydney, ethical approval must be obtained from the University of Sydney Animal Ethics Committee.
If you require further information please contact Dr Lucie Nedved, Animal Welfare Manager.
The University of Sydney Animal Ethics Committee does not ratify other Committee/s Animal Ethics approvals.
