Fellows Support Contribution Scheme

Fellows Support Contribution Scheme
Funding body University of Sydney
Aims The annual The Fellows Support Contribution Scheme aims to reward success in attracting prestigious research fellows by providing a financial contribution towards the shortfall between the salaries provided by category 1 research fellow schemes and the University pay scales.

Eligible fellowship schemes include Category 1 competitive, peer reviewed fellowship schemes with the exception of schemes like the ARC Laureate and NHMRC Australia Fellows where salary packages are negotiated with the institution.  Fellowships schemes where the fellowship received covers the salary paid do not generate a shortfall and are not eligible. To be eligible fellows must be paid through the University of Sydney payroll.

How funding is distributed

The distribution mechanism has been developed to be fair, transparent and administratively efficient.

  1. the annual contribution is based on the salary-related income received during the whole year;
  2. the contribution is transferred twice a year, usually in April and October;
  3. the contribution transferred in April is based on the estimated income to end June, and the October transfer is based on the income for July-December, including any required adjustments.  Where necessary a final adjustment will be made at year end;
  4. the contribution is transferred directly into the fellowship account to reduce the gap between actual cost and funding received; and
  5. if a fellowship is terminated, the proportion of the contribution pre-paid beyond the termination date will be recovered.
Key dates Contributions are transferred to Fellows’ accounts in two instalments: April and October
