How the University uses your research output
Research management system
Since 2002 the University’s research publications have been stored in a research management system. This information is used for reporting to HERDC and ERA. Publications are awarded points and these are used to determine the amount of funding the University will receive.
HERDC stands for the Higher Education Research Data Collection.
ERA stands for Excellence in Research for Australia. ERA is a new system that aims to assess research quality within Australia's higher education institutions. Key documents needed for the ERA 2012 submission process.
How to ensure your publication is counted toward HERDC
There are four publication types eligible for HERDC inclusion:
- Book – Authored Research (A1)
- Book Chapter – Commercial Publisher (B1)
- Journal Article – Refereed, Scholarly Journal (C1)
- Conference Publication – Full Paper Refereed (E1)
Each publication type must meet specific criteria in order to be included in the HERDC.
Sydney Research Online
Sydney Research Online is an “internal access only” repository of research material (articles; book chapters; conference papers), produced by University of Sydney Staff which has been reported for HERDC and ERA purposes.
