Exquisite Corpse: A Visual Research Collaboration

Exquisite Corpse

Exquisite Corpse, a collaborative visual research project involving students and alumni of Sydney College of the Arts and Parsons the New School for Design, will open on Thursday 5 June. The project commenced in New York City in January 2008, with artists working in small groups, passing work back and forth in the spirit of the surrealist notion of the exquisite corpse, responding to one and others ideas and impressions to the experience of contemporary city living, namely in NYC and Sydney.

Notions of built/imprint, sky/arc, earth/contour, water/ pulse, and ultimately one’s personal relationship to their surroundings are the focal point of the intense dialogue. The new cultural and physical environment of Sydney has again transformed the work which manifests itself in video, photographs, works on paper and performance.

Exquisite Corpse will be on dipslay in Gallery 1 and 2 at Sydney College of the Arts until 14 June. The project is made possible by the University of Sydney's International Development Fund and will continue until the end of 2008 culminating in exhibitions in both New York City and Sydney.
